Kentucky Family Photographer | Newborn Photography

I’ve been shooting primarily weddings, couples, and lifestyle family sessions for the past three years. Funny story though- when I FIRST started out, I really wanted to be a newborn photographer! As time went on I learned to love other types of photography and kind of left the styled newborn sessions behind.

But now- I’m back at it! I’m so excited to start providing beautiful, minimalistic newborn photos highlighting the newness and sweetness of these little ones!

This week, I attended a workshop at my friend Christy Morgan Photography’s photography studio in Ironton, OH. Paige Franklin Photography taught us about posing, styling, lighting, and more! I learned SO much and I’m super excited to put what I learned into practice with my own clients.

Spring Picnic Session | Prestonsburg Kentucky Family Photographer

The Smiths are such good friends and always a treat for me to photograph! I love watching families grow- especially those so dear to my heart! What a wonderful time photographing them for the first time as a family of five!

We wanted to do something a little different than just an ordinary family session so we made it a little more fun by having a picnic. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed shooting them. OH, and Cora- I promise we’ll have another picnic soon! ;)

How Much Coverage Do I Really Need? | Kentucky Wedding Photographer

When planning a wedding, sometimes it’s hard to imagine just how much time each part of the day will take. It’s even harder to know how much time your photographer will need to document each part. Many times, there are parts you aren’t even thinking about!

For example, those beautiful detail shots that you’re seeing on Instagram and Pinterest. When does the photographer make time for that? You might be surprised to know that I generally reserve 45 minutes to an hour to photographing all of those little details. Other questions include how much coverage is needed for the getting ready shots, first look, and couple’s portraits.

All of these things become clear when I sit down with each couple and we go through a detailed wedding timeline outlining each part of the day. Sometimes, couples realize that they didn’t have as much time as they thought they would have and decide to add additional coverage. Wouldn’t it be easier if you had an idea of just how much coverage you’ll get with each package offered? THAT’S what this blog post is about.

8 H O U R S | D E L U X E P A C K A G E

I’ve found that 8 hours of coverage works perfectly well with nearly every situation. There is enough time to fit in everything you need without feeling that anything is rushed. Your entire event is covered thoroughly from the well planned details, to the leisurely “getting ready” time, to the couple, family, and wedding party portraits- all the way through the ceremony, reception, and send off. There’s plenty of time to eat, dance, even grab a few sunset photos before your sendoff. It’s like a lazy Saturday in your favorite pjs. Comfy, breezy, and plenty of time for whatever you want to do. Of course, there may be exceptions- in which case additional hours of coverage may be requested.

7 H O U R S | E S S E N T I A L P A C K A G E

For many couples, 7 hours of coverage works well! Depending on several different factors, there should space for nearly everything- but it can be a bit tight. You might be thinking- how much of a difference can one hour make? You’d be surprised! There may not be time to document the send off- which can be important for couples that have planned something fun like sparklers or confetti poppers! There will generally be less time to photograph all of the details. If your ceremony will have special aspects or is expected to be long, if you want a first look, or if you’d like your entire reception to be covered, you can expect to make some decisions about what isn’t as important to you for coverage.

5 H O U R S | B A S I C P A C K A G E

This package is truly for the minimalist. Perfect for an elopement or small intimate wedding. If you have a small family and wedding party, super quick ceremony, and don’t mind to pick and choose chunks of the day that aren’t as important to have photographed- this package may work for you. If you’re planning an average to large wedding, you’ve spent lots of time planning gorgeous details, and want every precious moment documented- this is NOT your package.

Every wedding is different and unique! Each couple with their own priorities and needs. Although the above is a general estimate of how much coverage you’ll get with each package- it’s hard to place all weddings into a box. I want to be sure you’re confident in the amount of coverage you choose! I’m happy to send over sample timelines for you to look at based on the package you’re most interested in! If you have any questions about customizing a certain package, feel free to ask!

Boho Wedding {Whitesburg} | Lexington Kentucky Photographer

Bristol and Baleigh’s boho Whitesburg wedding was not only beautiful in the (incredible!) details and style- but in the love that they have for each other, Jesus, and their friends and family. It was so wonderful to witness how they incorporated their faith throughout the day. It was woven throughout their vows, prayer, and a short worship service during their ceremony.

The peach color palette was STUNNING and can you believe that all the decor was styled by the bride and her sister?! I loved that Baliegh included her grandfather’s bible as a part of the wedding and I was also able to use a quilt made from his shirts in the detail styling.

There were full hearts and eyes full of tears all throughout the day. This was a special one. I’m so happy for you, Baleigh and Bristol! Congratulations!

Classic Fall Wedding {Lawrenceburg Kentucky} | Lexington Photographer

What a stunning Fall day in Kentucky this was! I stand by my word that Laura and Brian without a doubt had their wedding on the most beautiful Fall day of the year. The weather was warm, the trees were glowing orange, yellow, and red and the light was glorious. It couldn’t have been more perfect for two of the kindest souls I’ve ever met.

Laura and Brian chose The Barn at McCall Springs as their wedding venue. They got ready in a little cottage on site, then said their vows at their home church- St. Lawrence Catholic Church. They then came back to The Barn for their fun reception.

All of their friends and family were bubbling over with joy for them and with them all day long. It was such an honor to be chosen as their wedding photographer. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Wulker!

In-Home Family Christmas Session | Hindman Kentucky Photographer

What a sweet little in-home Christmas session with the Napiers! Their lovely house near Hazard Kentucky was so festive and cute, their kids precious, and just a beautiful family! I LOVE in-home sessions and this was no exception. I know their kids will treasure these photos taken in the same home they have and will continue to celebrate the season in for years to come.

Cat + Robert's Kentucky Elopement | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? Well Catrina and Robert have loads of luck after their rain soaked elopement in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Friends held umbrellas as Cat and Robert said their vows and officially committed themselves to each other. They got ready at their home and came back after their vows to celebrate with cake and tacos! It was such a relaxed and comfy day. We decided to plan another day to photograph family and couples photos so that we could get some nice outdoor shots. I’m SO happy for them both and their little family!

Camp Nathanael Fall Sibling Session {Hindman} | Kentucky Family Photographer

It was SO wonderful to meet these precious girls and their parents on the first day of Fall! Camp Nathanael is a beautiful campus and it truly felt like Fall with leaves on the ground and a slight drizzle. Harper and Saylor are two of the SWEETEST sisters. I loved how Harper took such gentle care of Saylor. She kissed her cheeks unprompted and giggled at how adorable her sis was throughout this family session! Saylor is such a happy 5 month old. I loved hearing her coo and seeing her smile at her mom and dad as they lovingly spoke to her during photos. These girls have such a special bond that I know will only strengthen and grow as they do!

Salyersville Church Wedding | Prestonsburg Photographer

Jimmy and Morgan were wed in what I'm convinced has to be the most beautiful church in Salyersville. Their family and friends had such a big part of their day. I was blown away by all the thoughtful details that the bride's family put into the decorating to make their wedding absolutely beautiful and special.

Jimmy and Morgan wanted to go the traditional route of not seeing each other before the ceremony but decided to have a prayer together right before. She did however have a first look with her dad which was so sweet and emotional (and you HAVE to just see the father-daughter dance for yourself).

Jimmy was beside himself to see his bride walk down the isle for the first time. The whole day went beautifully and was filled to the brim with love and faith. Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Meade!
