When planning a wedding, sometimes it’s hard to imagine just how much time each part of the day will take. It’s even harder to know how much time your photographer will need to document each part. Many times, there are parts you aren’t even thinking about!
For example, those beautiful detail shots that you’re seeing on Instagram and Pinterest. When does the photographer make time for that? You might be surprised to know that I generally reserve 45 minutes to an hour to photographing all of those little details. Other questions include how much coverage is needed for the getting ready shots, first look, and couple’s portraits.
All of these things become clear when I sit down with each couple and we go through a detailed wedding timeline outlining each part of the day. Sometimes, couples realize that they didn’t have as much time as they thought they would have and decide to add additional coverage. Wouldn’t it be easier if you had an idea of just how much coverage you’ll get with each package offered? THAT’S what this blog post is about.

I’ve found that 8 hours of coverage works perfectly well with nearly every situation. There is enough time to fit in everything you need without feeling that anything is rushed. Your entire event is covered thoroughly from the well planned details, to the leisurely “getting ready” time, to the couple, family, and wedding party portraits- all the way through the ceremony, reception, and send off. There’s plenty of time to eat, dance, even grab a few sunset photos before your sendoff. It’s like a lazy Saturday in your favorite pjs. Comfy, breezy, and plenty of time for whatever you want to do. Of course, there may be exceptions- in which case additional hours of coverage may be requested.

For many couples, 7 hours of coverage works well! Depending on several different factors, there should space for nearly everything- but it can be a bit tight. You might be thinking- how much of a difference can one hour make? You’d be surprised! There may not be time to document the send off- which can be important for couples that have planned something fun like sparklers or confetti poppers! There will generally be less time to photograph all of the details. If your ceremony will have special aspects or is expected to be long, if you want a first look, or if you’d like your entire reception to be covered, you can expect to make some decisions about what isn’t as important to you for coverage.

This package is truly for the minimalist. Perfect for an elopement or small intimate wedding. If you have a small family and wedding party, super quick ceremony, and don’t mind to pick and choose chunks of the day that aren’t as important to have photographed- this package may work for you. If you’re planning an average to large wedding, you’ve spent lots of time planning gorgeous details, and want every precious moment documented- this is NOT your package.
Every wedding is different and unique! Each couple with their own priorities and needs. Although the above is a general estimate of how much coverage you’ll get with each package- it’s hard to place all weddings into a box.
