5 Ways to Care for Your Wedding Vendors | Lexington Photographer

Over the years as a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the very best clients EVER. I have been shown unbelievable kindness, treated as family, and formed precious friendships! I could never express how thankful I am!

As wedding vendors, we understand what a priceless and momentous day it is for you. We do our very best to be sure that you are taken care of- most often way beyond our hired services. It is SO appreciated when those sentiments are extended back to us. Today, I’m going to share some of the ways that clients have made me feel appreciated and cared for, and how you can extend these things to your own wedding photographer and other vendors.

Trust us with the service you are hiring us for. It is so important that the wedding vendors your hire align with your vision. Do your research! Browse their website and social media accounts. Get to know what kind of “vibe” you’re after, then hire a vendor that embodies that and trust them! An experienced vendor will know exactly what to do.

Assign a seat for us at the reception. It seems like a simple gesture, but this is one of the biggest ways that you can make your vendors feel appreciated and cared for! It’s always such a treat to see my name on a seating chart. No one wants to be searching for dinnerware or a place to eat their meal.

Verbalize your appreciation. After the wedding- or after you have received your wedding gallery!- let us know how much you appreciated the services offered to you. Trust me, we are waiting to hear from you! Speaking as a photographer, the work that I produce is a part of me and my art. Nothing will make my day more than hearing that you are happy with what we’ve made together!

Share about us on social media and leave a review. Are you blown away? Write a post detailing specifically what you loved and tag us! Leave a review on Facebook, Wedding Wire, etc. When you share photos, give us credit by tagging our business pages or linking our websites. For most of us, the majority of our business comes from word of mouth. Not only will you make our day, but you’re likely showing other interested potential clients that we are a great option and helping our businesses to thrive!

4 Star Village Red Fox Kentucky | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Leigh and Chadd’s wedding at Four Star Village in Red Fox Kentucky was so wonderful! Leigh, Chadd, and all of their family and friends enjoyed a super relaxed day. The Spring weather cooperated with warm temps (and no rain!) and their ceremony took place during the perfect time of day giving a cool shade.

Blue being my absolute favorite color, I loved the color palette. Leigh’s dress was MADE for her and the bridesmaids’ dresses were so perfectly elegant. Chadd and the guys were so laid back and supportive!

A few of my favorite parts of the day were Leigh’s first looks with her dad and step dad. I’m always a sucker for the groom’s first look, and Chadd was so emotional seeing his bride walk down the aisle. All of the speeches were precious, especially Leigh’s sister Brandi who talked about how much her baby sister has always meant to her.

I’m so happy for you Leigh and Chadd. Congratulations!

Stonewall Resort West Virginia Wedding | Kentucky Photographer

Where to even begin? It was such an honor to photograph Sarah and Ryan’s wedding day. I fell in love with them the first time we met for their pre-wedding consultation. They are two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. They both beamed while telling me about their kids and their love story. Sarah is probably the sweetest person on the planet. Ryan is perfect for her and is such a caring and supportive partner.

It was such a joy getting to meet their family and friends. Everyone agreed that they met each other just when they needed each other most. Their boho decor amongst the beautiful natural views at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke WV was just perfect. One of my favorite moments was when Sarah gifted Ryan his late father’s watch with a brand new band during their first look.

So, so happy for the new Mr. & Mrs. Mayse!

How Much Coverage Do I Really Need? | Kentucky Wedding Photographer

When planning a wedding, sometimes it’s hard to imagine just how much time each part of the day will take. It’s even harder to know how much time your photographer will need to document each part. Many times, there are parts you aren’t even thinking about!

For example, those beautiful detail shots that you’re seeing on Instagram and Pinterest. When does the photographer make time for that? You might be surprised to know that I generally reserve 45 minutes to an hour to photographing all of those little details. Other questions include how much coverage is needed for the getting ready shots, first look, and couple’s portraits.

All of these things become clear when I sit down with each couple and we go through a detailed wedding timeline outlining each part of the day. Sometimes, couples realize that they didn’t have as much time as they thought they would have and decide to add additional coverage. Wouldn’t it be easier if you had an idea of just how much coverage you’ll get with each package offered? THAT’S what this blog post is about.

8 H O U R S | D E L U X E P A C K A G E

I’ve found that 8 hours of coverage works perfectly well with nearly every situation. There is enough time to fit in everything you need without feeling that anything is rushed. Your entire event is covered thoroughly from the well planned details, to the leisurely “getting ready” time, to the couple, family, and wedding party portraits- all the way through the ceremony, reception, and send off. There’s plenty of time to eat, dance, even grab a few sunset photos before your sendoff. It’s like a lazy Saturday in your favorite pjs. Comfy, breezy, and plenty of time for whatever you want to do. Of course, there may be exceptions- in which case additional hours of coverage may be requested.

7 H O U R S | E S S E N T I A L P A C K A G E

For many couples, 7 hours of coverage works well! Depending on several different factors, there should space for nearly everything- but it can be a bit tight. You might be thinking- how much of a difference can one hour make? You’d be surprised! There may not be time to document the send off- which can be important for couples that have planned something fun like sparklers or confetti poppers! There will generally be less time to photograph all of the details. If your ceremony will have special aspects or is expected to be long, if you want a first look, or if you’d like your entire reception to be covered, you can expect to make some decisions about what isn’t as important to you for coverage.

5 H O U R S | B A S I C P A C K A G E

This package is truly for the minimalist. Perfect for an elopement or small intimate wedding. If you have a small family and wedding party, super quick ceremony, and don’t mind to pick and choose chunks of the day that aren’t as important to have photographed- this package may work for you. If you’re planning an average to large wedding, you’ve spent lots of time planning gorgeous details, and want every precious moment documented- this is NOT your package.

Every wedding is different and unique! Each couple with their own priorities and needs. Although the above is a general estimate of how much coverage you’ll get with each package- it’s hard to place all weddings into a box. I want to be sure you’re confident in the amount of coverage you choose! I’m happy to send over sample timelines for you to look at based on the package you’re most interested in! If you have any questions about customizing a certain package, feel free to ask!

Laura and Brian’s Lawrenceburg wedding was absolutely one of my favorites of 2018. Their wedding day took place on THE most beautiful Fall day of the year- no doubt- at The Barn at McCall Springs. Every detail was stunning and they are such a precious couple, so deserving of having their wedding highlighted in this way.

Boho Wedding {Whitesburg} | Lexington Kentucky Photographer

Bristol and Baleigh’s boho Whitesburg wedding was not only beautiful in the (incredible!) details and style- but in the love that they have for each other, Jesus, and their friends and family. It was so wonderful to witness how they incorporated their faith throughout the day. It was woven throughout their vows, prayer, and a short worship service during their ceremony.

The peach color palette was STUNNING and can you believe that all the decor was styled by the bride and her sister?! I loved that Baliegh included her grandfather’s bible as a part of the wedding and I was also able to use a quilt made from his shirts in the detail styling.

There were full hearts and eyes full of tears all throughout the day. This was a special one. I’m so happy for you, Baleigh and Bristol! Congratulations!

Classic Fall Wedding {Lawrenceburg Kentucky} | Lexington Photographer

What a stunning Fall day in Kentucky this was! I stand by my word that Laura and Brian without a doubt had their wedding on the most beautiful Fall day of the year. The weather was warm, the trees were glowing orange, yellow, and red and the light was glorious. It couldn’t have been more perfect for two of the kindest souls I’ve ever met.

Laura and Brian chose The Barn at McCall Springs as their wedding venue. They got ready in a little cottage on site, then said their vows at their home church- St. Lawrence Catholic Church. They then came back to The Barn for their fun reception.

All of their friends and family were bubbling over with joy for them and with them all day long. It was such an honor to be chosen as their wedding photographer. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Wulker!

Cat + Robert's Kentucky Elopement | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? Well Catrina and Robert have loads of luck after their rain soaked elopement in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Friends held umbrellas as Cat and Robert said their vows and officially committed themselves to each other. They got ready at their home and came back after their vows to celebrate with cake and tacos! It was such a relaxed and comfy day. We decided to plan another day to photograph family and couples photos so that we could get some nice outdoor shots. I’m SO happy for them both and their little family!

Whimsical Louisville Wedding {3rd Turn Oldham Gardens} | Lexington Photographer

It’s been one month since Gabbi and Mike’s wedding at Duncan Memorial Chapel and 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens in Louisville, Kentucky and I’m still blown away by all of the beautiful, creative details from their day. The bride and groom worked SO hard putting together really a work of art with so many special touches. One of my favorite details was that the bride’s bouquet included dried pieces of floral from her father’s casket. What a precious way to include and have her father with her on her day. Also, her bridal cape was custom made from a design that she helped to draw up- SO awesome!

I remember nearly a year ago when they inquired and Gabbi gave me a brief idea of their vision. It was one of those moments that I crossed my fingers and hoped that they would choose me because I knew they were super cool and their wedding would be so unique. Their engagement session at Joe Ley antiques is still one of my favorites- and this wedding DID NOT disappoint!

Not only was their wedding day filled to the brim with beauty and creativity- their love for each other is just the best. Gabbi and Mike are best friends in love with each other and I adore that about them. They are the cutest and most perfect match and I could not be happier for them. Congrats friends!

Kentucky Bride Magazine | Volume 10 Issue 2 | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Have you heard?! Liz Terry Photography was published in print for the first time this month and I’m SO excited about it! I picked up a magazine at Target with my work in it. WHAT?

Kentucky Bride Magazine is Kentucky’s only award winning bridal magazine and is distributed at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Barnes & Noble, Kroger and the newsstands in the Lexington, Louisville, and Greater Cincinnati airports.

I was able to meet Kate and Sandy, the mother/daughter duo and owners of Kentucky Bride, this year at the Intentional Workshop- a film focused workshop for wedding photographers. Knowing firsthand what sweet and passionate people are behind the magazine makes being published with them even more special!

Check out my 4 page Styled Shoot feature and 3 page Real Wedding feature below. Be sure to pick up your own copy to get lots of beautiful inspiration for your own wedding!

Countryside Vow Renewal {Lawrenceburg Kentucky} | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Ayna and Saifu are truly two of the most amazing people I've had the opportunity to meet. I had the pleasure of becoming friends with Ayna a little over a year ago at a photography workshop and I'm SO glad that I did! I had heard her speak lovingly of Saifu but had never met him until their vow renewal which took place in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on Ayna's family farm.

Ayna and Saifu had a very small, yet lovely traditional wedding in Saifu's family home four years ago (to the date of their vow renewal!). They had plans to have a big celebration of their marriage with photos and food and dancing with all their family and friends present at Ayna's favorite place, the family farm. Time and life got in the way and it was never planned. The farm went up for sale last year. While there was still time, Ayna knew she had to celebrate her wonderful marriage, her friends, community, and family all together in the most special place she could think of.

When I left that evening my heart was so full from Ayna and Saifu's love, meeting new friends myself, and being surrounded by their wonderful supportive community. This is what Ayna said about their time together that night:

"As for having a vow renewal, there is really no reason why people can't have one every dang year. They are fun as heck. I love him SO MUCH. We have a great relationship that we are both proud of. Growing with him is one of the greatest joys of my life, and we both love being married. We are best friends. Why on earth wouldn't I want to tell everyone how awesome he is all the time? I basically want to shout it from the rooftops constantly, but no one will let me get on their roof anymore."

"More than just expressing our love for each other though, we both wanted the renewal to be equally about celebrating the amazing people we have in our lives. We love our community and our families so much. We wanted a reason to get everyone together — all the different people we adore — and make something nice for them, you know? We wanted to put our love in the celebration. That's one of the reasons we made all the food! What better way to tell people you adore them and they are important to you, than to make them a meal?"

"In the end, the vow renewal was as much a celebration of place, and people, as it was a celebration of us. The places we live and love in, the people who hold us together and help us grow — they are just as important as our personal love for each other. Ultimately, August 10th was the perfect celebration of love, and community, and place — a renewal of our commitment to all those wonderful parts of our lives, and a look forward into a dang good future."
