Cat + Robert's Kentucky Elopement | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? Well Catrina and Robert have loads of luck after their rain soaked elopement in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Friends held umbrellas as Cat and Robert said their vows and officially committed themselves to each other. They got ready at their home and came back after their vows to celebrate with cake and tacos! It was such a relaxed and comfy day. We decided to plan another day to photograph family and couples photos so that we could get some nice outdoor shots. I’m SO happy for them both and their little family!

Kentucky Bride Magazine | Issue 10 Volume 2 | Lexington Wedding Photographer

Have you heard?! Liz Terry Photography was published in print for the first time this month and I’m SO excited about it! I picked up a magazine at Target with my work in it. WHAT?

Kentucky Bride Magazine is my absolute favorite local magazine. It is Kentucky’s only award winning bridal magazine and is distributed at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Barnes & Noble, Kroger and the newsstands in the Lexington, Louisville, and Greater Cincinnati airports.

I was able to meet Kate and Sandy, the mother/daughter duo and owners of Kentucky Bride, this year at the Intentional Workshop- a film focused workshop for wedding photographers. Knowing firsthand what sweet and passionate people are behind the magazine makes being published with them even more special!

Check out my 4 page Styled Shoot feature and 3 page Real Wedding feature below. Be sure to pick up your own copy to get lots of beautiful inspiration for your own wedding!

Red River Gorge Wedding Barn Styled Shoot | Lexington Photographer

When Chelsea and Heather of Unbridled Beauty asked me to shoot a film for the launch of their new business, I jumped on board! They put together an absolutely stunning styled shoot at the Red River Gorge Wedding Barn and Event Venue in Campton Kentucky. The White Dress of Lexington provided the wedding dress and bridesmaids' gowns while Whitney Irene Designs put together all of the stunning boho style floral pieces. Myself and Amy Wallen Photography documented the day with photo and video footage and I am just in LOVE with the turnout.

Red River Gorge Elopement | Lexington Kentucky Wedding Photographer

Red River Gorge is one of my absolute favorite places to photograph. It was so quiet and nice the day that I met Ethan and Maleaha after their private elopement in Lexington to photograph some "just married" portraits of them! Maleaha started out in a short, fun wedding dress and then changed into her mother's wedding dress- which I thought was SO special!  Maleaha has such a classic, vintage kind of beauty and I thought this vintage dress suited her perfectly. Beyond being vulnerable in front of a camera, I think hiking a trail bonds people together. We hiked Rock Bridge Trail all the way around the loop and we definitely had to make a few hand holding trains to keep each other's balance! I've only hiked a few trails at the Gorge, but Rock Bridge Trail is definitely my favorite so far! If you're planning your own elopement in Kentucky, I highly recommend checking out the Gorge!

Art Inspired Styled Elopement | Lexington Kentucky Wedding Photographer

When I began dreaming up this shoot, I wanted to choose an artwork that inspired me so that I would be able to draw upon the concept and pull out ideas. I came upon a painting called The Lady of Shalott, by William Waterhouse (google it!). As I learned more about the painting I came to find out that it was based on a poem by the same name.

In short, the Lady of Shalott was cursed to live in a tower and never leave or view the outside world except through the reflection in a mirror. A man comes riding by on his horse and when she catches his reflection, she falls in love with him. Even though she knows a curse will fall on her, she must leave and find this man. On her way to him in a boat, she dies from the curse. Her boat floats to his palace and he finds her very beautiful. However, they never get to meet each other.

I was inspired by the tragically beautiful poem, time period, and beautiful tones and colors of the painting which the color scheme is based off of. The tone and mood of the painting and poem are reflected in the shoot, however the couple has a happy ending in this story!

I had such a fantastic group of vendors and support to bring this shoot together and could not have done it without the help of each and every one of them!

Red River Gorge Elopement | Lexington Kentucky Photographer

Recently I assisted my friend, Brandi Potter, to photograph an elopement in Red River Gorge. Every time I visit the Gorge I am in awe all over again of the natural beauty all around. It is a beautiful place to share wedding vows, and this elopement was a perfect example of that. However, the beauty of the Gorge paled in comparison to the beautiful and genuine people that I had the privilege to photograph. Gena has the most infectious and kind smile, and there was a lot of it on this special day! Lee's love for Gena was so evident and it was sweet to watch him wait for her at the overlook in happy anticipation.

We started the day in a little cabin off of Rock Bridge Road, and then made our way to Chimney Rock Trail where we hiked an easy trail to end at a beautiful overlook of the hills below. Gena and Lee were surround by their family and closest friends as they shared a relaxed, yet beautiful and intimate ceremony.

Red River Gorge Styled Elopement | Lexington Wedding Photographer

I'm so excited to share with you this styled woodsy elopement that took place at Red River Gorge in Stanton, Kentucky. I took several months planning the concept, the color scheme, and the location. Then picking out each detail until the entire shoot became cohesive and flowed well together.

The evening started out with a beautifully decorated picnic table. We then hiked Rock Bridge Trail to the end taking moments to enjoy the scenery and celebrate their love.

If you are planning your own elopement, contact me and let me capture all the beauty, love, and uniqueness of your day!
